Global vs. Local Edits
I found it somewhat difficult not to pay too much attention to the fine details that could make someone’s paper even the slightest bit better. Every time that I found myself critiquing the small grammatical errors, I had to tell myself to stop and look at the bigger picture of the overall text and how it is structured. I found that this action occurred on multiple occasions and I had to pull myself away from the text, literally, I tend to read really close to the paper to really absorb what I am reading. Which, I think is why I tend to pick out the fine mistakes that do not need to be nit-picked over. Separating myself from the two types of edits really allowed me to focus on a different area of editing a paper. I feel like I was able to see how people structure their papers compared to mine and what might have been going through their head as they were writing their paper. Compared to only looking for mistakes that need to be deleted or a comma. As I was editing the two peers’ papers I could really see how looking at a global edit could essentially fix local edits as well.
