Fossil Free Pitt Ends Occupation of Cathedral

The peaceful protest is over: the organizers are giving a huge thanks to everyone that came out to support and spread awareness. The article summarizes what they have been doing and trying to divest the endowment from the fossil fuel industry. After the Board met on Feb. 28 they decided to approve to a “socially responsible investing process” along with supporting carbon neutrality of the school by 2037. Unfortunately, the Board did not vote on the actual divestment of the funds during the meeting. Although the organizers of the protest said they would continue the protest they decided to end it. They felt it was not making any more progress and was causing a toll on students participating in the protest. The organizers wanted to make sure everyone knows they did not leave on the behalf of the administration but their own behalf. So, the organization left a note on Chancellor Patrick Gallagher’s office door. At the end of the article, it has a picture of the exact note the organizers left. For now, the organization is recharging but they are assuring everyone that they are not staying quiet about the matter.
