Journal #5

Just a quick note about the very beginning they start it off oh it’s not all about knowing people; if you write a beautiful grant proposal you can still get rejected without a reason as to why. I feel like this really kind of takes you back a little because it’s like well then isn’t it about knowing the right people? I was surprised to read that there is actual software created for organizations to keep track of all their relationships. It definitely makes sense but I feel like there would be a drawback of making those relationships start to feel kind of one-sided or divided after a while. What I mean is that after making connections with so many individuals and organizations there are bound for some to get forgotten which doesn’t look good on anyone’s part. I know this software would help prevent that but it definitely makes the whole networking system less personal and humane. After reading through this chapter I think it really shows that every step of the process is touch and go; like you may think you are all good and dandy but there could be just something off that results in the funder turning away from your organization. This chapter just really makes you feel like you have to be positive but you can’t be overconfident because things can change or be different than what you are thinking. This is felt when they talk about the meeting with a funder for the first time and even after submitting an LOI, your organization could still be left out of the invitations to submit proposals.
