Students Hold Rally Urging Fossil Fuel Divestment”

Multiple University organizations came together chanting at the university to stop investing in fossil fuels on Thursday, February 13, 2020.  The protest occurred on “Fossil Fuel Divestment Day” which is an event that takes place at over 50 organizations across nationwide campuses. This event was created by Divest Ed, whose aim was to help college students make divestment movements to help in slowing down climate change. Not to mention the university itself has been trying to become a more sustainable university and look at its impacts on the environment.

One administrator, Chancellor Ghallagher, made sure to give the students some insight into what needs to happen before and how decisions are made. He talked about how the University’s Board of Trustees need to look into what the fund from the fossil fuels would be transferred over to. The article also talks about how the students feel they are not being seen what is happening with the endowment. Even though there are students sitting at some of these meetings and giving more concerns of the students.
